Cloth Cover

Cloth cover binding originates from around the 1930’s and refers to when hardback books are covered with a cloth finish. Also referred to as ‘publishers cloth’, ‘edition cloth’ or ‘original cloth’ this process continues particularly in book restoration.

Book cloth falls into three main categories (1) starch-filled (2) acrylic and (3) vinyl-impregnated. The cloth itself is specially prepared for covering books and is available in a range of grades and colours.
